I’m so grateful that Lyndsey and Dalton were willing to meet me for their engagement session at Indiana University in Bloomington because they are die-hard Purdue fans! (I have to make sure I mention where their loyalties are before I go any further with this post.) Even if you’re a fan of another university, you still need to take a peek at this engagement session at IU! This has to be one of the prettiest campuses I have ever been to. It’s historic architecture and lush landscaping makes this 200+ year old venue a photographer’s dream.
IU Engagements, Bloomington, IN
As mentioned above, I met Lyndsey and Dalton on campus at the Rose Well House. The lovely stone columns perfectly framed them as they snuggled up together. We made sure to take advantage of the late afternoon sunshine and the blooming flowerbeds in front of Maxwell Hall. From there we moved on to a quaint little back alley. We found coolest gas lanterns and wrought iron stairs to work with.
After a quick wardrobe change, we snapped a few more photos in front of Beck Chapel. We ended up in a ravine behind the chapel for some of my favorite shots from the entire session. I was so excited when Lyndsey and Dalton agreed to dip their toes into the stream and have a little fun splashing in the water. It was a bit of an adventure, and every minute was so much fun!
High School Sweethearts
Dalton and Lyndsey have already been together for over a decade! They met during Lyndsey’s freshman year of high school. They were working on a school musical together. Their relationship blossomed throughout high school and was strong even when Dalton went out of state for a year of college. Their bond was reinforced when Dalton transferred from U of L to USI, where he and Lyndsey finished their education together. They have literally grown up together, facing life head on and supporting each other along the way.
A Relaxed, Yet Spontaneous Proposal
Lyndsey describes her and Dalton’s personalities as “go with the flow” types. They love to spend their time outdoors hiking, hunting, skiing, and marking off the stops on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Hallmarks of their free time include relaxing, spending time with friends and family, and hitting up their favorite restaurants. Here is what they said when I asked them to each describe what they loved most about the other person:
Dalton: ” (Lyndsey is) adventurous, in that (she is) down to do pretty much everything I like, regardless if (she has) done it before or knows what it may entail.”
Lyndsey: “(Dalton) is my rock and my biggest supporter and always wants me to do what makes me happy. We enjoy doing so many different things together and I love how he is always up for an adventure with me!”
Dalton was as spontaneous and relaxed about his proposal to Lyndsey as he is about most things in life. They had just come home from dinner when he sneakily pulled out the ring and popped the question. Lyndsey was so surprised and overjoyed! Even more so because Dalton was shooting from the hip. Because of their love for adventures, I can see why this was the perfect way to propose!
The Greatest Adventure of All
I loved my time with Dalton and Lyndsey during their engagement session at Indiana University and I cannot wait to photograph their long awaited wedding! I know it is going to be so beautiful and full of love. I feel so lucky to be a part of one of the new Mr. and Mrs. Burk’s greatest adventures of all-time!
If you’re getting married in the Bloomington, IN area, I would love to meet you and see how I can help all of your wedding dreams come true!
