Spring engagement sessions will always be my favorite. Especially when I am able to shoot at a location as beautiful as Beckley Creek Park! Even though it’s a very long drive from my home base, every minute spent traveling was worth it! The only thing that topped the shoot location was Maggie and Dallas themselves. They are such a kind, patient, and attentive couple. Their love and excitement for this season in their life is infectious. I am so excited to finally photograph their wedding this weekend!
Grey’s Anatomy IRL?
Dallas and Maggie met during their first year of medical school. That’s right, these two are not only adorable, they are smarty pants too! Dallas drummed up the courage to approach Maggie during an orientation event the VERY FIRST week of medical school. He fought through his nerves and realized the woman whom he thought so intimidating, in Maggie’s words, “wasn’t going to bite.” Their friendship and eventual relationship blossomed as they continued supporting each other through medical school and subsequent internships/residencies.
Maggie shared with me that she was/is so impressed with Dallas’ intelligence and generosity in tutoring her in anatomy and neurobiology. They even had their first date over a cadaver in gross anatomy lab. I don’t quite know how to feel about that myself, but it obviously worked for these two. I couldn’t be happier for them, ha ha!
A Change of Plans
Dallas was ready to propose to Maggie in January 2020, after about 5 years of dating. Unfortunately, his plans had to be postponed due to the COVID Pandemic. Both were feverishly working through their residencies during what is probably going to be one of the most challenging periods of their careers. Once things calmed down for them a little bit, Dallas finally surprised Maggie with a ring. They had just signed the lease for their first apartment together. Maggie says, “Even though we didn’t have the opportunity to have a grand/fancy proposal, it was still special and perfect to us & we were happy to share that moment with each other.”
The second major change of plans came when Maggie and Dallas made the difficult decision to postpone their wedding for a year, also due to the Pandemic. Even though it was a very stressful and heart-wrenching choice to make, they knew that it would be the best decision for them and their families in the long run.
Two Years Later
It has been over two years since Maggie and Dallas booked with me. Maggie is now a Pediatrician with less than a year left of her residency. Dallas is well on his way to becoming an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon. I can’t help but feel a little bit of unearned maternal pride over their accomplishments. I can only imagine the hard work, perseverance, and patience they both possess, qualities that have certainly been put to the test over the last couple of years.
In the Meantime
Spare time is a rare occurrence in the midst of their careers/educations, saving the world from Corona Virus, moving in together, planning a wedding, and continuing to care for their fellow man. If they have a quiet moment together, Maggie and Dallas enjoy watching movies, playing video games (Dallas), spending time with their loved ones including their aging cat (Lulu), painting by number (Maggie), and traveling. Maggie put it best when she said, “Our favorite thing to do as a couple….. is just to spend time around each other!! We don’t really have to do anything super crazy, we always find a way to laugh when we are around each other and make it a blast. We are each other’s best friends.”
(I’m not crying, you’re crying.)
I literally cannot hardly contain my excitement to FINALLY be able to commemorate Dallas and Maggie’s love as they pledge their souls to each other. Their beautiful, intimate celebration will be held on Sunday at Yew Dell Gardens in Crestwood, KY. It’s the perfect setting for an epic romance that seems to have moved mountains while in the making.
