Hamilton County in Indiana has so many beautiful gardens, it’s hard to choose where to shoot engagement photos! While the garden these engagement photos were photographed at is actually in Colorado Springs, CO (yes, I do offer destination wedding and engagement photography), it reminds me of some of my favorite gardens in Hamilton County. In this blog post I will share links to some of my favorite garden photo shoot locations in the area, as well as highlight Brandon and Melinda, who are a truly amazing couple!
Brandon + Melinda
This is another eHarmony success story! Here is their meet cute in Melinda’s own words, “We met on eHarmony. He technically wasn’t one of my matches because I was too far distance wise to meet his criteria. I was in Indiana, and he was in Colorado. When I saw his profile picture with him holding a big floofy cat and his adorable smile, I immediately sent him a message. I’m very shy and not one to make the first move, but being online gave me the courage to reach out. I had lived in Colorado for several years before moving back home to Kentucky/Indiana. He messaged back almost immediately, and we have talked every day since that day.” Their relationship has held strong through space, time, and even COVID. Eventually Melinda decided to relocate to Colorado Springs, where she and Brandon continued their courtship and finished planning their wedding.
The Engagement Session
Since Melinda and Brandon were holding their wedding in Indiana, they decided they would like to have their engagement session photographed in Colorado. The stars aligned and I was able to make the trip! It was so much fun and completely worth it!
We started the session off at a local garden. It was so sweet and had some really great architectural elements to frame the couple with. It reminded me a little bit of my Hamilton County garden engagement photo shoot recommendation: Coxhall Gardens in Carmel, IN. Coxhall Gardens not only has the most gorgeous green space, it also offers several buildings with different architectural styles to suit any couple’s tastes. There is also a beautiful bridge offering sweeping views of the entire property.
Another wonderful public garden located in Carmel, IN that would be perfect for an engagement session is Kawachinagano Japanese Garden. This beautiful Hamilton County garden offers a quaint koi pond with lots of lily pads surrounded by blossoming trees (in the spring.)
Central Park in Carmel, IN is another favorite of mine. Check out the link and you’ll see why. With the grandeur of the large bridge providing the backdrop to the stunning floating walkway, it’s definitely a must-shoot location!
The Grand Wrap Up
When we were finished shooting at the garden in Colorado Spring, Melinda, Brandon and I headed to one of the city’s greatest treasures; Garden of the Gods. We drove up to Brandon’s favorite overlook and spent the rest of the evening light shooting there. The views were breathtaking.
For couples who are looking for locations in Hamilton County that are a little less landscaped and a little more wild like this one, I recommend Nonie Were Krauss Preserve. This location has a mix of wooded areas along the White River and open prairie grounds. It’s a home to a wide variety of plants and animals, and spring brings an assortment of wildflowers to the landscape.
